About the Farm

Plan Your Visit

We look forward to welcoming you to the farm! While it is one of the many things that is so charming about this place, please remember that Blossom & Brie is a working farm. At our farm we raise and care for cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, ducks and donkeys along with all kinds of other wildlife that stops by.

Children and adults alike love to see our animals and interact with them. It is important to do so safely and with respect for our animals.

If you are bringing children to the farm, please supervise them at all times. Please do not allow your children to tease, chase or taunt the animals as it can be stressful and dangerous for both the animals and the children. The farm and our animals bring great joy to us and to our guests and we want this to be a wonderful experience for everyone.

If you plan to wander the farm, you may want to consider wearing close toed shoes.

We love dogs, but we do NOT allow dogs or pets on the farm for the safety of our animals and yours.

We look forward to welcoming you to the farm and sharing this special place with you!

Farm Facts

What is Freight Farming?

The entire Blossom & Brie team is working diligently to maintain farming best practices and explore its full potential – and that now includes Freight Farming!

A Freight Farm is a vertical, sustainable, innovative agricultural system that utilizes repurposed 40-foot shipping containers for year-round, climate-controlled farming. These container farms are equipped with hydroponic or aeroponic systems, enabling the cultivation of a variety of crops in a controlled environment. The vertical design optimizes space, allowing for the stacking of multiple levels of crops within the container. Just one freight farm can grow the equivalent of 2-4 acres annually.

The Freight Farm system incorporates advanced technologies such as LED lighting, automated climate control, and nutrient management, providing an efficient and resource-conserving approach to farming. This model allows for the production of fresh, local produce regardless of external weather conditions and geographical constraints.

Freight Farm Product & Benefits

Local and Fresh

Freight Farms enable year-round local production of fresh vegetables and herbs, reducing the reliance on long-distance transportation. This results in produce harvested at its peak, offering optimal taste and nutritional value.

Sustainability

The controlled environment within a Freight Farm allows for efficient use of resources such as water and nutrients. Additionally, the vertical farming model maximizes space utilization, contributing to more sustainable and resource-conscious agricultural practices.

Reduced Carbon Footprint

By growing produce locally, Freight Farms help minimize the carbon footprint associated with transportation, as the need for long-distance shipping is significantly reduced. This aligns with eco-friendly practices and supports a more environmentally conscious food supply chain.

Year Round Availability

The climate-controlled environment within the container allows for year-round production, overcoming seasonal limitations. This consistent supply can enhance food security and stability in local markets.

No Pesticide Residues

The controlled environment in a Freight Farm reduces the need for chemical pesticides, resulting in produce with minimal or no pesticide residues.

All these benefits result in fresh, healthy, clean, sustainable and amazing produce year-round right here on our farm.

In addition to the new freight farm, our many raised garden beds serve as a great basis of the fresh produce for our culinary team, and we are always in the process of planting a variety of produce and flowers, which will be carefully changed throughout the growing season. – Chef Wesley Robbins

The Animals

Meet the Animals at Blossom & Brie

The founders of Blossom & Brie are committed to serving as good stewards of the community, the land and the animals who live on it. Here’s more about the animals that live on our land!

cow

All our cattle raised here at Blossom & Brie are grass-fed and grass-finished. All of our livestock are raised without the use of antibiotics, steroids, or growth hormones. Our cattle have been Grassfed Certified by the American Grassfed Association for the past seven years. We are currently in the process of recertification since we purchased the property. We plan to continue that great tradition here on the farm.

Our Heifers are majestic Longhorns. Not only are they amazingly beautiful, but they are also disease-resistant. Our grass-fed and grass-finished Longhorn cattle are raised on a diet consisting primarily of grass throughout their entire lives. This practice emphasizes a more natural and sustainable approach to cattle farming, promoting the well-being of the animals. Longhorn cattle, known for their distinctive horns, benefit from a diet rich in nutrient-dense grasses, contributing to leaner and healthier beef.

pigOur Red Wattle pigs are a heritage breed known for their distinctive appearance and flavorful meat. Characterized by their red color and distinctive wattles, or fleshy lobes, hanging from their necks, these pigs have a unique and attractive physical profile. Red Wattle pigs are often prized for their rich marbling and succulent meat, making them a preferred choice among enthusiasts and chefs. The breed is recognized for its hardiness, adaptability, and ability to thrive in outdoor environments, contributing to sustainable and ethical farming practices. They are raised without the use of antibiotics, steroids, or growth hormones.

chickensOur pasture-raised chickens are a combination of Australorp, Dominiques, and Silver Laced Wyandottes raised in a system with access to open fields and natural foraging areas. This environment allows them to exhibit their natural behaviors, such as scratching, pecking, and dust bathing. The Australorps, with their glossy black feathers, thrive in the outdoors, benefiting from a diverse diet of insects, seeds, and plants found in the pasture.

These chickens roam freely, promoting exercise and overall well-being. Pasture-raised practices contribute to the development of healthier and more flavorful eggs due to the varied diet and increased exposure to sunlight. This method aligns with sustainable and ethical farming practices, providing us with eggs from chickens that lead a more natural and fulfilling life. Our chickens are raised without the use of antibiotics, steroids, or growth hormones.

sheepFlorida Cracker Sheep are a heritage breed specifically adapted to the challenging climate and terrain of Florida, USA. Known for their resilience and hardiness, these sheep played a significant role in the state’s agricultural history. They are well-suited to the subtropical climate, characterized by hot and humid conditions.

Key characteristics of Florida Cracker Sheep include a lean build, long legs, and a coarse wool coat. Their ability to withstand high temperatures and resist common parasites makes them particularly suited to the region. Historically, they were essential to early Florida settlers for their adaptability and low maintenance.

Today, Florida Cracker Sheep are recognized as a heritage breed, and efforts are made to preserve and promote their genetic diversity. These sheep contribute to sustainable and traditional farming practices, embodying a piece of Florida’s agricultural heritage.

donkeysBlossom and her two offspring, Margaret and Humphrey, are critical to our farm. Blossom is the matriarch donkey, namesake, and protector of the farm and has been on the farm for over 10 years. Donkeys are known for their protective nature. They act as natural guardians for our herd of livestock, especially the young, and alert the herd to potential threats such as predators. Their presence helps deter predators and keep the livestock safe.

Donkeys form strong bonds with our animals on the farm. Their social nature provides companionship, creating a more harmonious and less stressful environment.

Blossom, Margaret and Humphrey are also the most enthusiastic when offered a treat! We love them and are sure you will, too!
